Meet the men and woman of the Supingstad Sewing Cirle
Boitumelo Gladys was born in 1953 on the 23rd of September – she was raised in Supingstad village.
She worked in Florida, Gauteng, as a house keeper and a baby sitter.
She spends most of her time sewing, which she enjoys very much.
She is happy to be part of the “Supingstad Sewing Circle” working together with Bopa Monyetla to earn an extra income.
Lerato was born on the 22nd of February 1986, in Supingstad. She is hearing impaired and as such attended a special needs school in Rustenburg.
Lerato has a 14-year-old son, who attends Supingstad Primary School. She pays for his schooling and living costs from her government social grant.
Lerato loves to cook and read, and enjoys being part of the sewing circle, which provides her with a much needed income, to supplement her daily costs.
Hilda was born in Supingstad 46 years ago: A mother of two girls and grandmother of one. She takes care of her niece of 4 as her sister passed away.
Hilda works at the Madikwe Academy as a child minder and her deepest wish is to qualify as a teacher. Hilda enjoys spending time in a quiet and peaceful place.
She hopes to be able to build her own home, for her family.
Zippora Mmesi lives in the Supingstad community and has celebrated 57 birthdays.
After working as a housekeeper in Johannesburg for many years, Zippora returned home. She still works full time as a housekeeper and childminder for lodge managers in Madikwe Game Reserve.
A keen seamstress Zippora loves to complete patchwork projects and quilting. Her quilts are exquisitely beautiful.
